McArthurGlen Designer Outlet, Vancouver Airport opened to huge fanfare on 9 July 2015 as the first designer outlet to serve the Vancouver metropolitan market. The Cushman & Wakefield retail team attended the grand opening along with record breaking crowds. The centre is a fashion lover’s paradise; offering some of the most sought-after international and North American brands, with advertised year-round savings of up to 70%, all in a stylish, easy-to-shop environment. BOSS (Hugo Boss), Armani, Polo Ralph Lauren, Coach, Brooks Brothers, and more than 30 designer shops are now open for business.

McAuthurGlen experienced an unprecedented record breaking turnout of 160,000 shoppers over the opening weekend. Record turnouts have revealed how Canadian consumers no longer need to cross the border for premium outlet shopping. In contrast the weak condition of the Canadian dollar will likely bring an influx of Americans tourists into Canadian shopping malls. McArthurGlen is the first of its kind to open in North America, with an additional 20 outlet malls across Europe. Richmond MP Alice Wong explained to an audience that “not only will travellers shop here, but also locals, keeping Canadian dollars within Canadian businesses.” In addition to helping Canadian business, City of Richmond is also expecting the creation of 1,000 new jobs for the final phase of completion.

Cushman & Wakefield Associate Vice President Alastair Fergusson commented, “This grand opening was an event of global proportions. Large lineups were present for both the Coach and Polo Ralph Lauren stores, with many other stores experiencing ‘Boxing Day’ style crowds. McArthur has acknowledged Vancouver’s insatiable appetite for luxury brands and aspirational fashion lines with the opening of their first North American outlet mall right here in Vancouver.”

In a unique location (three minutes on the Canada Line from Vancouver International Airport/YVR and 20 minutes from downtown Vancouver), the centre is a joint venture between Vancouver Airport Authority, a community-based, not-for-profit organization that operates Vancouver International Airport, and McArthurGlen, Europe’s largest owner, developer and manager of designer outlet malls.
